- Come to me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. —Matthew 11:28-30
The Church of Humans receives the Seven Commandments of Christ as the New Covenant for human life.
Christ first gives the Great Two:
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.
Christ also reiterates five commandments for human conduct:
You know the commandments: Do not commit adultery. Do not murder. Do not steal. Do not bear false witness. Honor your father and mother.
The Rule of Love
The Seven Commandments are a covenant with Christ.
They form the boundary of human love.
They teach us to love God wholly, to love our neighbor as ourselves, and to do no harm by betrayal, violence, theft, false accusation, or contempt.
The Seven
1. Love the Lord your God
To love God is to turn the whole person toward the source of life, truth, mercy, and peace.
This love is not merely belief, speech, ritual, or identity. It is the orientation of the heart, soul, strength, and mind toward God.
2. Love your neighbor as yourself
To love your neighbor is to recognize another human being as one who is not beneath you.
The neighbor is not limited to tribe, nation, religion, family, agreement, or approval.
Love of neighbor is the commandment by which all human conduct is tested.
3. Do not commit adultery
Do not betray covenant love.
Do not use intimacy to deceive, exploit, possess, or destroy.
4. Do not murder
Do not take life.
Do not treat another human being as disposable.
5. Do not steal
Do not take what belongs to another.
Do not use need, weakness, office, or advantage as permission to seize what is not yours.
6. Do not bear false witness
Do not use speech to injure falsely.
Do not accuse falsely, slander, entrap, distort, or testify against another by deceit.
7. Honor your father and mother
Do not despise the human chain through which life came to you.
Honor your ancestors.
